Hiring: Experienced Development Director

Then Family Star is the place for you! Family Star is currently seeking a personable, diplomatic, flexible, enthusiastic, and resourceful person to fill our Development Director position. Ideal candidates are ready to join a learning community which holds children and their families in high esteem. This position spearheads development efforts and has responsibility for growing financial support and goodwill for Family Star from individuals, foundations, and corporations. The ideal candidate will have a warm, friendly personality with the ability to promote Family Star, build genuine relationships with supporters, and to create marked growth in Family Star donations. This position reports to the President and CEO, works closely with the Board of Directors and the Development Team, and supervises and guides the activities of the Marketing and Events Manager.
Family Star is a nationally recognized and unique program that implements an authentic and inclusive Montessori philosophy in all of our age ranges. We serve children 2 months - 6 yrs. of age and families across the economic spectrum in a respectful and empowering community. We are unique in that we also receive funding through Head Start which allows for an exciting environment of children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. We are an inclusive school that accepts and meets the needs of children with disabilities as well. Family Star is thriving and growing and currently has schools in Northwest and Northeast Denver and a home-based program. We have a positive student and staff culture, passionate commitment to authentic Montessori education and a warm, supportive parent community.
Major Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Oversees and executes an annual fundraising plan that includes growth of a large base of annual and multi-year donors. • Provides coaching and support to other Development staff and the Development Team with marketing, communications, event planning and implementation. • Provides development reports to the appropriate parties. • Plans and directs major gift appeals, securing and building financial support and goodwill. • Builds and sustains relationships with supporters and donors through communications and events. • Researches, writes, and submits grant proposals and reports. • Maintains positive relationships with Foundation Program Officers.
QUALIFICATIONS • 5 years or more of professional experience in a nonprofit organization • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and expand donor relationships, proven fund-raising track record • Demonstrated success in a development function, including grant-writing and special events • Strong organizational and time management skills; demonstrated ability to plan, organize, communicate, and direct fund-raising organizational activities; ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral—demonstrated ability to writing compelling funding proposals and to present a compelling philanthropic case to donors • A Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and fund-raising software programs
Important Qualities • Must possess a professional, personable, diplomatic demeanor • Must be resourceful, articulate, persistent, attentive to detail, and flexible • Must possess a high level of initiative and self-direction, be detail-oriented and organized, and must be self-disciplined to follow through to completion of projects • Must also possess great ability to work productivity with others, developing genuine relationships with donors and supporters, motivating and inspiring others to support Family Star • Must have comfort with mission-based fund-raising and ability to lead Development Team to learn the Benevon fund development model and leads it faithful implementation • High energy and passion for Family Star mission will be essential
Other Requirements • Must have oral and written proficiency in the English language. • Must be able to work the hours of the position based on the organization’s needs. • Must complete clearance of a background check, post-offer, pre-employment physical, and TB test.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: • Experience with the Benevon model preferred • Experience working in a Non Profit Education program • Experience working with a Montessori program
