Over 3000 students have become alumni of Family Star Montessori.
Caitlin attended Family Star Montessori from 1 to 4 years old, and she is currently in 1st grade. She is mainstreamed into a typical class room 80% of the time and receives disabilities services the remainder of the time. She LOVES school! Caitlin has come a long way in her development and continues to grow. She is walking independently with a walker, using the bathroom independently, and even reading level C books! Caitlin knows all of her letters and sounds and is learning to write sentences. She is taking piano lessons, horseback riding, loves anything science-related, and she says she “wants to be an astronaut so she can explore outer space.” Her mother says: “Caitlin’s determination to strive for independence with such grace inspires me daily to work hard, integrate creative solutions, and strive to make a difference for all.”
Maritza attended Family Star Montessori from the time she was two months through 6 years old. Today she is 10 years old and in the gifted and talented program at her elementary school. Maritza loves school. She is especially good at math and also enjoys reading and writing her own stories. In her free time, she likes playing soccer and hopes to play professionally someday. Maritza speaks both English and Spanish fluently and often helps her 5th grade teacher by translating for Spanish-speaking students and parents. Maritza’s favorite memory of Family Star is of setting the table for her classmates at lunchtime and learning to clean up after herself – both of which she still does at home today.
Tim was enrolled at Family Star Montessori from 1992 through 1997 – from 6 months through 5 years old. His mother remembers Tim responding to Spanish phrases during his first month at Family Star, cleaning up after meals (which he still does), learning to multiply on the abacus, and taking field trips to the Zoo and the Pacheco farm. Tim graduated from East High School in 2010, and is currently attending Wheaton College in Massachusetts. He continues to exhibit Montessori principles including sharing, putting away his work carefully, and listening intently to others.
Lili just finished the 1st grade at Brown International Baccalaureate Academy in North West Denver. She is scoring in the 3rd grade reading level. She is looking forward to 2nd grade, but will be enjoying the summer first- horseback riding, camps, swimming and traveling with family. She also enjoys spending time hanging out with her mom, who is proud of her for receiving awards for both reading an attendance!
